Kern County sees nearly ten percent of its youth not graduate high school on time.*
 

At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County, we not only see most of our teens graduate, we also see over a third of them go on to complete some post-secondary education. This is a testament to the Club’s programming where our Power Hour helps students achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring and high-yield learning activities, and encouragement for students to become self-directed learners.
 

GOOD CHARACTER AND CITIZENSHIP

Nearly five percent of Kern County students encounter some form of school suspension each year.*
 

At BGCKC, over seventy percent of our Club youth not only have perfect attendance in school, forty-five percent of them volunteer and give back in their communities. The Club helps combat issues of school suspension and truancy with dynamic teen (ages 14 to 18) programming such as the Keystone Club. This unique program provides leadership development opportunities for youth to participate in activities, both in and out of the Club, in three focus areas: academic success, career preparation and community service. With the guidance of an adult advisor, Keystone Clubs aim to positively impact teens, their Club and local communities.
 

HEALTHY LIFESTYLES

Nearly twenty-five percent of Kern County children under 18 suffer from food insecurity.**
 

For years, BGCKC has helped to combat child hunger with its USDA approved meal distribution program. In 2022, the Club served nearly a million meals and snacks to children in the community to help during the crisis. The Club continues its meal program distributing healthy meals and snacks to children during out-of-school times at 13 sites throughout Kern County.
